Borderlands, where multiple worlds merge, come apart, scab over is a body of collages made from 2022 to the present, created with made and found photographs, acrylic paint, paper and canvas. The collages address the Americas as a body that holds together a story of migration and multiracial existence – contrasting starkly between regions but in which there are deep shared histories and roots. Within the collages my own body and the bodies of the women in my life are merged with tropical and North American plant life, including South West cactai to speak to a folding and collapsing of the self within the land and time; a paradox between the experience of the body to the soul.. How the psyche fits and is buried, an acting out and re-staging of internalized stories is at the heart of the work. Important is alchemy, transformation and rebirth of the psyche.
